Connetquot High School earned the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s 2025-26 School of Distinction designation for the strong academic performance of its student-athletes.

The annual distinction recognizes schools whose varsity athletic programs demonstrate strong achievement in the classroom. Connetquot was among 38 Long Island high schools to earn the School of Distinction designation this year. To qualify, 100% of a school’s varsity teams must earn NYSPHSAA’s Scholar-Athlete Team Award. For a team to earn the award, the average grade-point average of the top 75% of its roster must be at least 90%.

“It’s a great honor to have the state recognize how well our student-athletes perform in the classroom and on the athletic field,” Director of Physical Education, Health, Athletics and Recreation Peter Melore said. “Considering we have the most varsity teams in Suffolk County, this is a great achievement and a credit to our student-athletes. We emphasize the process both in the classroom and within our athletic programs, and a big part of that process is making academics a priority.”
