Slocum fifth graders transform into historical American figures with ‘wax museum’

As part of Connetquot’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, fifth grade students at Edith L. Slocum Elementary stepped into the roles of prominent figures in American history, creating their very own Influential Americans Wax Museum.
Students researched notable Americans, wrote biography reports, designed informational posters and prepared first-person speeches to share what they learned. On the day of the event, students became “wax figures” of their chosen historical subjects, dressing in costume and striking posed positions until visitors rang a bell to hear their presentations. The experience allowed students to showcase their research and public speaking skills while honoring individuals who helped shape the nation’s history.
