Weekly Sports Update - 6/4/21
TRACK: Congratulations to graduating senior Micah Cooper, who set the new school record for the pole vault by vaulting 14’7”, breaking the record of 14’6” set by Thomas Domozych in 2019. Domozych was on hand to watch Cooper break the record and was the first one on the mats to congratulate his former teammate. Cooper is now ranked #1 in Suffolk County, #2 in Suffolk County and #4 in New York State and is undefeated in the pole vault in league III, making him league champion. His goal now is to become division II and Suffolk County champion by season’s end. According to coach Shelby White, “Micah has spread his talents around for the team over his career at Connetquot, scoring in events such as the 100m, 200m, 4x100, high jump as well as the pole vault.” He will attend Holy Family University in the Fall.
BASKETBALL: On May 27, the CHS unified basketball team welcomed Brentwood as they celebrated the program’s graduating seniors. Prior to what turned out to be an exciting, competitive game, Connetquot’s seniors and their parents were recognized in front of a supportive crowd of family and friends. Congratulations, and to Tyler Verdi, Gavin Lane, Andy Gil, Stephen McGahan, Angelina Espinal, Billy Curtin, Gabrielle Ruivo and Callie Messina for your leadership and commitment to the Connetquot community.
SOFTBALL: On June 2, Alexandria LaBarba’s seventh inning homerun capped a 6-run seventh inning, giving the T-Birds a 7-6 win over visiting Lindenhurst. Julianna Levanti went 2-4 scoring one run and an RBI. Emily Crain had two RBIs. Isabella Andres pitched a complete game and earned the win. Connetquot is now 7-5 going into the final weeks of the season.
TENNIS: The boys’ tennis team celebrated it’s annual ‘Senior Day’ on June 1 by honoring their graduating seniors and earning a 7-0 win against Lindenhurst. Senior Jacob Danziger won at third singles in Suffolk league II. The other graduating seniors, Kevin Wilk and Joseph O’Brien, secured a win in second singles. Connetquot is now 5-5 and looking forward to consideration for a playoff bid.
