Congratulations to Connetquot’s Class of 2026!

The Connetquot High School Class of 2026 celebrated the culmination of its high school journey on June 25 during the district's annual commencement ceremony. Dressed in red and white caps and gowns, the graduates processed onto the football field to the familiar strains of Pomp and Circumstance as proud family members, loved ones, faculty and staff filled the stands with cheers and applause.
Following the processional, the Bohemia Fire Department presented the colors before student Michael Ibraham led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Members of the high school chorus then performed The Star-Spangled Banner and Connetquot's alma mater, Brave Connetquot, setting the tone for the ceremony.
Principal Michael Moran welcomed graduates and guests, reflecting on the impact the Class of 2026 has made on the Connetquot community. As you leave here to begin your next chapter, know that your time here has mattered, Moran said. The impact you've had on this school will be felt long after tonight. Whether your path leads to college, the workforce, military service or another opportunity, approach it with the same determination, kindness and integrity that brought you to this moment.”
Board of Education Vice President April Iannitelli followed with a message about embracing life's unexpected turns and believing in one's potential. Life isn't always a straight path. Sometimes, the road less travelled leads to the most incredible opportunities, surprises and gifts, she said. The most important thing you need to remember is this: you can become anything you want to be. Each and every one of you is capable of achieving great things.
One of the evening's highlights was the recognition of the top 25 students in the Class of 2026, who were each presented with medals and their diplomas.
Salutatorian Madison Holzmacher then took the stage, reflecting on the memories she and her classmates have created over their years. The assignments, notes, tests and quizzes will all be gone, but the memories I made with my friends and the experiences that we have shared can never be thrown away, she said. “All of you have shaped my life into what it is today, and it is only because of you that I can say I have accomplished what I have.”
Then, Valedictorian Declan Doran inspired the Class of 2026 with a message about resilience and trusting the process. Encouraging his classmates to persevere through life's challenges, he reminded them, Even when you feel like you'll never recover, remember you already have lived through millions of moments just like it. One incident cannot define an entire life. By continuing on, you give yourself the chance to discover the moments ahead that make every setback worth enduring.
Senior Class President Melinda Maraviglia closed the student addresses by reflecting on the memories that defined the Class of 2026 and looking ahead to the future. Today we move on to different paths – college, careers, the military or wherever life takes us, Melinda said. We will forever carry these memories and how it felt to be a T-Bird. Graduation is not the ending of our chapters, but the beginning of the rest of our lives.
Following the student addresses, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Centamore then took the stage for the official certification of the graduates. Quoting Theodore Roosevelt, he reminded students, “Believe you can, and you’re halfway there.”
As each senior crossed the stage to receive their diploma, cheers erupted from the stands. The ceremony concluded with the celebratory cap toss before Connetquot High School's newest alumni recessed from the field, marking the beginning of their exciting next chapter.
