Slocum honors beloved teacher’s aide with street sign dedication

During its annual Flag Day ceremony, Edith L. Slocum Elementary surprised longtime teacher’s aide Camille Marulli with a special street sign dedication in recognition of her nearly 40 years of service to the school community.
Mrs. Marulli, 86, has been a cherished presence at Slocum for decades and is affectionately known by students and staff as the school’s “kickball queen” in reference to the many pickup games she’s organized for students over the years.
“You are the person everyone can count on. You are always moving, always helping, and always finding ways to make our school a better place,” said teacher Mrs. Guarnieri-Guastella during the dedication. “Whether it’s organizing kickball games, lending a hand to a colleague, sharing a laugh, reminding students of the importance of respect and responsibility, managing the minibuses or serving an important role in the nurse’s office by assisting with children’s injuries and illnesses, you go above and beyond in everything you do.”
Following the heartfelt tribute celebrating her impact on generations of students, the school unveiled a surprise street sign reading “Marulli Way.” The sign will hang above the crosswalk where Mrs. Marulli escorts students into school each morning.
“Mrs. Marulli is an integral part of our community as well as Slocum Elementary School,” Principal Mr. Delio said. “She has been an important part of thousands of students lives during these past four decades and they never will forget her kindness and enthusiastic personality.”
The dedication was met with cheers and tears of joy from students and staff as the school community came together to honor Mrs. Marulli’s lasting legacy and countless contributions to Slocum.
