Slocum and Duffield Advanced Bands shine at NYSSMA events
The Edith L. Slocum and Helen B. Duffield Advanced Bands both showcased their musical talents at recent NYSSMA events under the direction of Ms. Suzanne Sommerhalter.
The Edith L. Slocum Advanced Band performed at the NYSSMA Majors Festival for a rating for the first time, earning a Silver Medal in recognition of their outstanding dynamics, articulation and musicality. The students performed three contrasting pieces and received both written and audio feedback to help further develop their musical knowledge and skills.
The Helen B. Duffield Advanced Band participated in the NYSSMA Majors Clinic Evaluation, where they performed two prepared selections before taking part in a workshop led by LIU Professor Dr. James McRoy. During the clinic, students focused on breathing, phrasing, dynamics and percussion balance. They also received written and audio feedback to support their continued musical growth.
