Connetquot’s fifth graders unite at Coming Together Day

The Connetquot High School turf field was filled with friendly competition on May 26 as fifth graders from across the district gathered for Coming Together Day, an annual event designed to help students get to know one another before heading to Oakdale-Bohemia and Ronkonkoma middle schools in the fall.
Students from Edward J. Bosti, Cherokee Street, Helen B. Duffield, Edith L. Slocum, Idle Hour, John Pearl and Sycamore Avenue elementary schools rotated through several relay race and game stations that kept them running, balancing and working together in games like crab soccer, tug-of-war and the potato sack race.
Throughout the morning, members of Connetquot High School’s Athletes Helping Athletes club kept the stations moving, helping organize games and encouraging teamwork as students mixed with peers from other elementary schools. By the end of the event, students left with new connections and a clearer sense of the classmates they’ll see again when middle school begins in the fall.
