Lights, Camera, Elapsed Time at Cherokee Street

At Cherokee Street Elementary, Mrs. Hoenigmann and Mrs. Savona’s third grade classroom was transformed into a movie theater, complete with posters of students’ favorite films, as students used movie showtimes to practice the math skill of elapsed time.

Students circulated throughout the room solving word problems based on movie schedules and runtimes. The activity combined critical thinking, movement and real-world math application in an interactive way.

The lesson concluded with a special movie viewing and freshly popped popcorn for all to enjoy!
