CHS juniors learn the dangers of distracted driving

Presented by Connetquot’s Drug and Alcohol Task Force, Stop DWI Suffolk County, in partnership with Arrive Alive Driving School Inc., visited Connetquot High School to educate juniors about the dangers of driving under the influence.
Stop DWI representative Caroline Flynn spoke with students about the serious risks associated with drunk driving, drug-impaired driving and distracted driving, particularly texting behind the wheel. As many juniors prepare to obtain their driver’s licenses, the presentation offered important, real-world insights into safe driving practices.
Following the presentation, students tested Arrive Alive’s driving simulator. They sat behind the wheel of an actual vehicle outfitted with a virtual reality headset, while sensors connected to the gas and brake pedals and steering wheel allowed them to safely simulate the effects of impaired driving. Afterwards, each student received a mock citation outlining the potential consequences of their actions.
The program provided students with a powerful and memorable lesson on the real-life consequences of unsafe driving behaviors.
