Holocaust survivor shares powerful testimony with OBMS

Holocaust survivor and author Marion Blumenthal Lazan visited Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School in the Connetquot Central School District on March 25, where she shared her powerful firsthand experiences as a child interned with her family in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Her message emphasized the importance of determination, perseverance, faith and hope, while also encouraging students to treat one another with kindness.
“I realize the importance of sharing that period of our history with you,” Mrs. Lazan said, addressing the auditorium of students. “Simply because, in a few short years, we will not be here any longer to give a firsthand account. Yours is the very last generation that will hear these stories firsthand, and I therefore ask you to please share my story or any of the Holocaust stories that you read or hear about. As difficult as it is, the horror of the Holocaust must be taught, must be studied and kept alive. Only then can we guard it from ever happening again.”
Students had the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions, and many left the presentation with a signed copy of her memoir, “Four Perfect Pebbles: A Holocaust Story”, a meaningful keepsake that will help them remember her story for years to come
