Pi Day comes full circle at Ronkonkoma Middle School

Students at Ronkonkoma Middle School celebrated Pi Day with a hands-on math lesson led by Mrs. Pope and Ms. Utting. Working in small groups, they used everyday objects, like a ball of Play-Doh, an Oreo, and a paper cup, to explore the relationship between a circle’s circumference and diameter. Using string and rulers, students measured each object and calculated the ratio of circumference to diameter. Along the way, they discovered that the ratio consistently came out to approximately 3.14, helping reinforce their understanding of pi as a mathematical constant.
