Idle Hour second graders ‘build community’

Second graders at Idle Hour Elementary wrapped up their social studies unit on different types of communities by designing their own urban, rural and suburban environments.

As part of the project, each student selected the type of community where they could imagine living and created a model to represent it. Students also wrote scripts describing what life would be like in their community and shared them with visiting special guests. The creative models featured a variety of imaginative details, including sparkling lights, aluminum foil and foam towers, real sand and gravel, figurines and much more.
