Random Acts of Kindness Week in Connetquot

From Feb. 9-13, Connetquot schools celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Week, a special week dedicated to promoting kindness, empathy, and anti-bullying throughout the district. Each day featured fun theme days, encouraging students to show kindness in creative ways. Students also attended assemblies and presentations from a variety of guests. The New York Islanders spoke about teamwork, while Officer Fernandez led sessions on bullying prevention, internet safety, and an introduction to police work. Additional programs came from the Piglet Mindset Education Program, the Long Island Railroad TRACKS program, Northwell Health, and Dragon Gate Martial Arts, all sharing lessons on resilience and making positive choices.
Throughout the week, students engaged in activities to connect with their peers and spread kindness. They wrote notes to classmates, visited appreciation stations to recognize someone they care about, signed kindness pledges, made cards for senior citizens and veterans, took part in kindness-based scavenger hunts, and created paper chains of kindness with messages of positivity. Middle school students enjoyed the Champion of Choices program presented by Marc Mero, while high school students attended an assembly hosted by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office on preventing bullying, discrimination, and hate crimes. High school DASA student ambassadors also visited elementary schools to share messages of kindness with younger students.
The week culminated on Feb. 13 with P.S. I Love You Day, when students and staff across the district wore purple to raise awareness for mental health and share messages of kindness and encouragement. Random Acts of Kindness Week highlighted the power of small actions to create a positive school culture where every student feels valued, supported, and inspired to be an upstander.
