DASA student ambassadors bring message of kindness to John Pearl

The Connetquot High School DASA student ambassadors, known as the “kindness crew,” recently visited John Pearl Elementary to speak with students about the importance of kindness and empathy.
The high school students began by asking a simple but powerful question, “What is kindness?” They introduced the golden rule and discussed what it means to treat others the way you want to be treated. Through conversation and examples, they shared practical ways to show kindness, such as inviting someone to play, offering a compliment or including someone who may feel left out.
John Pearl students eagerly participated, sharing their own experiences. Some explained that they have been writing kind notes to classmates during lunch as part of Random Acts of Kindness Week, reinforcing the idea that small gestures can make a big difference.
To help illustrate the concept of empathy, the ambassadors led a game, showing emoji faces representing different emotions and encouraging students to guess how each face might be feeling. The activity sparked thoughtful discussion about recognizing emotions in others and how to respond when someone appears sad, frustrated or overwhelmed.
The high school ambassadors offered strategies for supporting peers who may be experiencing strong emotions and emphasized the importance of seeking help from trusted adults when needed. Students identified examples of trusted adults in their lives, including teachers and family members.
The visit concluded with students exchanging compliments, reinforcing the message that kindness can brighten someone’s day.
