Sycamore Avenue students collaborate on “dream” project

Sycamore Avenue celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a cross-grade collaboration, involving all kindergarten and fifth grade classes. Under the direction of Library Media Specialist Ms. Ladick, students created a digital book titled “Our Kindergarteners Have Big Dreams.”
Using the Book Creator application, students worked together to develop the digital book. Each kindergartener was partnered with a fifth grade buddy, creating an opportunity for mentorship and shared learning. Prior to beginning the project, both grade levels learned about Dr. King and his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech, helping students connect their own aspirations to his powerful message.
Fifth graders took the lead in guiding kindergarteners through the technology, assisting them with taking photos, adding speech bubbles and typing their dreams and the reasons behind them. Kindergarteners traced their names, selected images that represented their future goals and personalized their pages with backgrounds of their choice. Together, each completed page contributed to a digital book that highlighted the dreams of every student involved.
