June has been a month of celebration for Connetquot as the Board of Education recognized outstanding accomplishments by students and staff at their June 10 and 12 meetings.

At the June 10 meeting, students in the district’s FLES program were honored for being recognized by the Long Island Language Teachers (LILT) organization for their award-winning poster entries supporting the theme “World Languages, World Citizens.” Also recognized was Cherokee Street fifth grader Lilia Patterson, who received a National Merit Award in the PTA Reflections program.

The Board celebrated several notable staff achievements as well, including Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School sixth grade teacher Mary Boucher, recipient of the prestigious STEM Star Award from LISTEMELA and Cherokee Street teacher Ryan Cavanagh, who earned third place out of 18 finalists in the TFCU Teacher Appreciation Week Contest.

At the June 12 meeting, the Board honored educators receiving tenure and those retiring at the end of the school year. Athletic achievements were also front and center as the Board congratulated Connetquot High School’s varsity cheerleading team on being named regional champions and national qualifiers. Individual athletes Katie Porcelli, Declan Doran, Luke Plana, Gavin Gagliardi, Essence Wright and Olivia DiGaetano were also celebrated for county and state-level accomplishments. The Board also recognized the boys track and varsity baseball teams on being named Suffolk County Champions!

Additionally, Skills Unlimited students Abby Marino, Diana Pelaez Rodriguez and Chevy Rommeney were recognized for their strong performances at regional and state Skills USA competitions.
