There is a strong belief among those who support curriculum integration that schools must look at education as a process for developing abilities required by life in the twenty-first century, rather than discrete, departmentalized subject matter. In the humanities, we will focus on historical and cultural literacy, with an emphasis on projects and research. Our sources will go beyond textbooks, and, eventually, beyond the information given so that students learn to draw evidence-based conclusions. The long-term goal of the humanities program is to provide students with the skills they will need to evaluate the human condition. Content is designed to give students insight into the history of our own humanity through a global prism. This, in turn, helps them to understand other cultures, both of time and place. Our objective is to provide students with the knowledge they need to sustain informed and responsible citizenship in an increasingly interdependent world.
