The highly successful Connetquot High School varsity baseball team, along with coach Rob Burger, were honored at the June 17 All-County Baseball Banquet, held at Villa Lombardi’s banquet hall in Holbrook.

During the ceremony, Mr. Burger, the team and individual student-athletes were recognized for their efforts this season. Joe Zimmerman received the Ray Nelson Courage Award and was named to the All-Long Island team; Joe Savino was awarded the Paul Gibson Award as the best pitcher in Suffolk County; Matt Brown-Eiring was named the Suffolk County Playoff Most Valuable Player; Joe Savino, Josh McGee and Matt Goodis were named to the All-Suffolk County team; Derek Yalon, Alex Ungar and Matt Brown-Eiring were named to the All-League team; Coach Rob Burger was named Suffolk County Coach of the Year, and League II Coach of the Year; The Connetquot High School varsity baseball team received the Robert A. Collotta Memorial Cup as Suffolk County Class AA Champions as well as the 2019 Suffolk County League II Champions.

The team finished their season with an impressive 21-6 record as Suffolk County League II Champions, and went on to win the Suffolk County AA Championship. In Coach Rob Burger’s first season as head coach, he took a 16-10 team, and put together a championship-caliber “family” that made their community proud of their achievements.   Coach Burger thanked the players, parents and community for their efforts and support this season, and also wanted to thank assistant coaches Dwayne Page and Frank Staib for their positive influence on the program.
