Connetquot High School’s National English Honor Society members visited John Pearl and Idle Hour Elementary Schools to celebrate Dr. Seuss Day with their younger peers.

In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2, many schools across the country participate in an annual nationwide reading celebration. To partake, Connetquot High Schoolers and Connetquot’s elementary students dressed as their favorite whimsical and colorful Dr. Seuss characters for the day. The honor society members then read beloved Dr. Suess books such as “Green Eggs and Ham,” “The Cat in the Hat” and “Horton Hears a Who!” to each grade with students ranging from kindergarten to fifth graders.

Each read aloud was followed by a fun, relevant craft for the students to take home. For example, students who read, “Horton Hears a Who!” potted their own tiny “Whoville” cities in cups of soil, while those who read “Green Eggs and Ham” colored green and eggs and ham onto plates.
