The district is proud to announce that Connetquot High School earth science and astronomy teacher Stephanie Burns was selected as the 2019 Outstanding High School Science Teacher by the Suffolk Section of the Science Teachers Association of New York State.

In order to be selected for this prestigious award, Ms. Burns was recommended by Connetquot Central School District Secondary STEM Chairperson Dr. Mary Loesing, and was provided with a number of upstanding letters of recommendation from colleagues and students’ parents alike.

During her 14-year career within the district, Ms. Burns has brought engaging and interesting lessons into her classroom setting, such as creating authentic earth science lab investigations, and utilizing pictures of impact craters which were captured by the International Space Station.

“Ms. Burns is a warm and caring educator who wants her students to succeed, and does everything she can to engage them in the study of science,” said Dr. Loesing. “Both myself and the district are very proud of Ms. Burns and congratulate her on this well-deserved award.”

For her recognition, Ms. Burns will be receiving a plaque signifying her accomplishment during an awards dinner being held at Villa Lombardi’s of Holbrook on May 29.
