Fourth and fifth grade students from Helen B. Duffield Elementary School recently engaged in a Skype session with the author of the “I Survived” series, Lauren Tarshis. Students from both Karen Pitka’s and Stephanie Russo’s classes enthusiastically led a question and answer session with the author after several students wrote letters to her, citing her as their favorite author. The “I Survived” series tells tales of fiction from the viewpoint of children who witnessed historical events such as the destruction of Pompeii, the American Revolution and Hurricane Katrina.
