The district’s Board of Education recognized a number of student accomplishments during a recent meeting held on the evening of March 26.
To begin the night’s recognitions, Idle Hour Elementary School fourth-grade student Brynn Burke was congratulated for being named a regional-level winner in the Suffolk Region PTA’s Reflections competition based on her lovely original song she both wrote and performed on her guitar, surrounding the theme of “Heroes Around Me.”

Connetquot High School junior Edward Sollazzo was praised by the board of education for completing his Eagle Scout project, in which he donated a “Buddy Bench” and “Outdoor Lending Library” to the elementary school he attended as a child, Sycamore Avenue Elementary School. Additionally, Edward was kind enough to donate all of the supplementary funding received for this buddy bench back to Sycamore Elementary School in an effort to support future school endeavors.

Connetquot High School girls gymnastics coach Renee Guerrieri spoke about her teams astounding success during the New York State Gymnastics Championships Competition which took place in Cold Spring Harbor on March 2. Student-athletes Amanda Pisano and Sarah Moussa were selected to compete, while Arianna Platti and Alexandra Melchiona were selected as alternates in the event of injuries. In addition to their achievements at the state competition, the team finished the regular season with an impressive record of 10-1.
