Fourth-grade students from John Pearl Elementary School recently applied their robust engineering skills to create their very own miniature “lighthouses” during the Long Island Maritime Museum’s “Explore the Shore” event. Working in pairs, the young engineers utilized a number of conductive supplies such as paper clips, aluminum foil and brass fasteners in an effort to successfully create a light source for their battery-powered “lighthouses.” Additionally, the students were able to design and create the structure of their lighthouses with materials such as paper bowls, egg cartons and plastic containers.
