On May 3, Oakdale-Bohemia and Ronkonkoma middle schools held career day for their eighth grade students.

Students had a designated amount of time at each table before rotating to the next, giving them a succinct overview of the day-to-day of each profession. A multitude of fields were represented by the professionals in attendance, including a sign language interpreter, police officer, doctor, hair stylist, IT specialist, architect, speech pathologist, scientist and even some of Connetquot’s own professionals.

Presenters informed students of the paths they took to get to their current positions and some gave interactive demonstrations. For example, a nurse exemplified how germs spread, using a black light, while another presenter showed students how to use a 3D printer.

At the end of each presentation, students had the opportunity to ask questions. Not only did students gain insight into the workforce, but the event also connected students with the community and the many jobs available in the region.
