On May 2, the Freestyle Connection BMX stunt team visited Cherokee Street Elementary School to share their thrilling tricks and positive messages.

Students lined the playground’s blacktop as the riders performed their first trick, a high-flying ramp jump. Students and faculty members were wowed by their seemingly- effortless stunts, cheering with excitement as they watched every daring move.

In between the exhilarating freestyle stunts, owner and rider Jon “The Duke” Dowker spoke to students about bicycle safety, making healthy lifestyle choices, accomplishing goals and building character.

He emphasized that “BMX” stands for “be anything you want to be,” “make positive decisions” and “‘X’ out negative things” such as tobacco, alcohol and drugs in exchange for positive things.
