The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office visited Connetquot High School to present, “The Dangers of Fentanyl and Drug Use,” making students aware of the risks that fentanyl and other drugs pose, including the tragic results these narcotics bring about. The event was presented by Connetquot Central School District’s Drug and Alcohol Task Force.

The presentation made clear that fentanyl is a powerful, addictive opioid that has had a profound and devastating impact on the community. The prosecutors stated that fentanyl is 50 times stronger than heroin, 100 times stronger than morphine and is responsible for countless fatal drug overdoses throughout New York State, including Suffolk County. During the presentation, the prosecutors gave examples of cases involving fentanyl and covered signs of an overdose, signs that someone is addicted to drugs, the existence of counterfeit drugs and other narcotics containing fentanyl, the Good Samaritan law and more.

The prosecutors ended the presentation with a question-and-answer session for students and their parents and guardians. Connetquot Central School District and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office believe that education and awareness are critically important factors in fighting against this crime. After hearing this presentation, students learned of the consequences their actions can have and the importance of good decision making.
