Girls swim and Dive Team:
The Connetquot/East Islip girls’ swim and dive team held a Breast-Stroke 4 Breast- Cancer fund-raiser at the Connetquot natatorium on Oct. 4. Team moms manned the snack tables and raised over $350, which will be donated to the Islip Coalition for Breast Cancer.

One team mom was heard to say, “So proud of these girls! A big thank you to Coach Sheibs and Coach Alex Scichilone for always supporting these girls. Not only do our coaches go above and beyond, they always join in and make things more fun.”

Thank you, girls, especially the seniors and parents for your financial donations and food.

Boys Varsity Volleyball Defeats Half Hollow Hills: Connetquot High School boys varsity volleyball coach Jess Perry and her staff were proud of the team’s impressive straight-set win over Half Hollow Hills on Oct.5. The T-Birds outscored the visitors 25-17, 25-18 and 25-17 to improve their overall record to 7-2.

Erick Duignan led the scorers with 14 kills, an ace and seven digs. Ryan Werner (12), Sean Rogalle (12), Ben Lillie (11) and Alex Lillie (6) added 41 additional kills. Junior, Kacey Ruais led the team with 45 assists.
Connetquot now stands third in the 23-team Suffolk Division I.

Girls and Boys Cross-Country Teams Shine: The Connetquot High School girls and boys cross-country teams took part in the Oct.1 Tom Knipfing Invitational Meet, held at Brookhaven Fireman’s Park, and did not disappoint.

According to girls’ coach Mike Austin, “The girls team turned in an amazing performance, winning the Tom Knipfing Invitational. Every girl ran their personal best time by a huge margin!”

Madeline Barget, Olivia DiGaetano, Julia Mansfield, Marissa McDougall and Lauren Murphy scored the points needed to win by a nearly 20-point margin.

“The girls are having an amazing season and move into October ready to take on the county competition, showing no signs of slowing down,” said coach Austin.

On the boys’ side of the competition against dozens of talented schools, coach Shelby White said that the T-Birds finished an impressive third place in the varsity A – 5K race, with a full list of season bests for each of them. The team was led by Michael Abbamonte, Greg Baldinucci, Ryan Iocca, Christian Mehrtens and Nick Rivers. The boys are looking forward to a competitive balance of the season, with hopes of punching their ticket to the post-season!

Girls Soccer v. Smithtown East: The girls varsity soccer team was protecting a scoreless tie for 39 minutes in the first half against visiting Smithtown-East but went into the half-time break down 1-0. Despite 12 saves by the T-Birds’ Gabbie Pinero, the visitors scored again in the second half to earn a 2-0 win and improve its record to 6-1-1. Connetquot drops to 4-2-1 in Suffolk Division I, which places them in the seventh spot among 25 teams.

Boys Varsity Golf: Connetquot High School boys varsity golf coach Gary Pesko was pleased with the team’s confidence and success in its Sept. 30 win over Middle Country High School. The teams met at the Holbrook Country Club, and the T-Birds came home with their second win of the season. Coach Pesko singled out Chase Zere for shooting his best round of 37, one over par, for nine holes. Connetquot has two matches remaining, and the coach looks forward to additional impressive individual performances and team highlights.

Boys Soccer V. Lindenhurst: The Connetquot High School boys varsity soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to visiting crosstown rival Lindenhurst High School on Oct. 7. Lindenhurst scored late in the first half and continued to hold the T-Birds scoreless. Connetquot goalie Tyler Moore was credited with seven saves in the game. The T-Birds’ overall record is now 6-5-1 as the season winds down and Suffolk County League II playoffs approach.
