Sycamore Avenue Elementary School’s Youth and Family Services Coordinator Laura Michelsen, along with the PTA, recently welcomed singer-songwriter Jared Campbell for a performance at the school. His songs not only entertained the students, but also reinforced positive character-building messages. His primary goal was to encourage students to believe in themselves and walk away feeling “awesome.”

“Each song pertains to kindness, respect and building each other up,” said Michelsen.

The presentation was part of the Connetquot Central School District Dignity for all Students Act Week. DASA works to provide students in New York’s elementary and secondary schools with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment and bullying on school property, on school buses and at school functions. Jared Campbell’s presentation emphasized the positive and encouraged all the Sycamore students to believe in themselves and support one another.
