The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness. Connetquot High School has been named to the 2024 AP School Honor Roll! 46% of Connetquot High School's seniors took at least one AP Exam during high school, 39% of seniors scored a three or higher on at least one AP Exam, and 18% of seniors took five or more AP Exams. Combined, these statistics yielded a Bronze level of distinction for CHS. The 2024 AP School Honor Roll also recognizes Connetquot High School with its AP Access Award. Connetquot High School provides all students the opportunity to participate in AP, including students of underrepresented populations.

In honoring Hispanic Heritage Month, Connetquot High School’s international club practiced the Guatemalan tradition of making muñecas quitapenas or worry dolls. In the post-Mayan tradition, it’s believed that telling your worries to a worry doll will take them away. The dolls are characterized by their small size and represent the women of the region. They are also called chamulitas since they belong to the Chamula ethnic group of Guatemala. Dovetailing off Mental Health Awareness month, the students combined the themes and created dolls to share with classmates as a means of supporting those experiencing anxiety. Special thanks to club advisors Ms. Roy-Caffrey and Ms. Madden for leading the project!

At the Sept. 24 Board of Education meeting, the Board recognized Connetquot High School students who participated in 2024 summer internships. Through their mentorship experiences, students gained invaluable professional skills and took huge steps towards investing in their futures. The students first applied and interviewed with the business department before going through the process of writing a professional resume, practicing interview skills then interviewing with their respective internship hosts. Each student has satisfied the number of hours required by New York State through the work-based learning office. Congratulations to the following students on their internships:

Dressed in red and filled with T-bird spirit, the Connetquot school community and alumni flocked to Connetquot High School on Sept. 21 for the school’s homecoming game against Sachem High School North. A cheering crowd lined 7th street as students and community members energetically marched in a parade ahead of the big game. Cheerleaders, kickline, marching band, student government members, the homecoming court, members from Connetquot’s first graduating class of 1964 and more marched in the parade alongside themed floats. Ahead of the game, Connetquot honored community heroes, including first responders, military members, veterans, police officers, firefighters and others who serve the community in a special ceremony. Those being honored walked across the football field, stopping at the 50-yard line, as those in the bleachers paid tribute to their hard work, dedication and service. The “bird cage” roared with excitement as the Connetquot Thunderbirds took to the field, ready to face off against Sachem High School North. The Thunderbirds gave it their all, taking the win in overtime with a final score of 21-14.
