CHS - GRADUATION INFORMATION

CONNETQUOT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT GRADUATION INFORMATION - JUNE 22, 2023

  • 6/21/23 - GRADUATION REHEARSAL @ 8:00 AM.  

    Mandatory Graduation Rehearsal will be Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. Please report directly to the Auditorium to be checked in so that rehearsal can begin promptly.


GRADUATION: Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 6:30 PM

This year’s graduation will be held Thursday, June 22, 2023 on the High School Football Field at 6:30 PM. Students should arrive by 5:30 p.m.  Graduation begins PROMPTLY.  If there is inclement weather, please see instructions in italics below.

Important information:

  1.  Caps can be decorated - nothing should be hanging from or sticking up from the cap. Anything inappropriate will not be permitted and will have to be removed before the ceremony. 
  2. Photographs will be more impressive, if your gown is wrinkle free.
  3. You should put on your cap and gown as quickly as possible.  Do not carry pocketbooks, cameras, phones, etc. Graduates and guests are not permitted to wear high heels on the artificial turf field. 
  4. Important: Graduates should wear soft sole shoes only to minimize noise on the bleachers during the ceremony.
  5. Cords and sashes from outside honor societies/clubs are not allowed to be worn for graduation here at Connetquot High School.
  6. We strongly encourage you get dropped off at the High School, rather than taking their own transportation.
  7. Upon arrival, please check in at the Auditorium. You will receive a yellow card with your name on it.  Please do not lose this card.  You will hand this card to a Faculty Member when you enter the stage.
  8. If there is inclement weather on Thursday, June 22nd, the administration will decide by 2:00 p.m. to postpone the ceremony and an Ed Alert will be sent out. The rain dates are the following, times to be determined:
  • 1st rain dateFriday, June 23, 2023
  • 2nd rain dateSaturday, June 24, 2023
  • 3rd rain dateSunday, June 25, 2023

 The ceremony will start promptly.

  1. Procession Line - Top 25 Students (in rank order), Class Officers, Student Government Officers, National Honor Society and Chorus members followed by the general student graduates.If you are a class officer or student government officer, medals will be issued to you in the Auditorium to be worn for the ceremony.
  1. Graduates must walk in line, one behind the other so that there are no gaps in the line. You will wear your cap straight on the top of your head with the tassel on the FRONT RIGHT SIDE.
  2. When the procession begins please follow directions from teachers, Ms. Neckin, Mr. Sidman, Mr. Dolan and Mr. Modica.
  3. After entering the field and taking your respective place on the bleachers, you are to remain standing and silent. 
  4. Remain standing until directed to sit down. Senior Choral Members will proceed to the microphone to sing the National Anthem.
  5. The next portion of the program will consist of speeches and presentations by Administrators, Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and Class President.
  6. At the conclusion of these speeches, the graduating class will then be called to begin receiving their diplomas. 
  7. You will receive your diploma cover from the Superintendent or a Trustee of the Board of Education.  Take the diploma cover with your left hand and shake hands with your right hand.  Remember to look the presenter in the eye when shaking hands.
  8. After the last diploma has been awarded, the Senior Class President will lead the class in moving the tassel, symbolizing your passage from CHS.  When he does this, you are to move your tassels from the right side of your cap to the left side of your cap. This is to be done in unison.  When this has been done, the Principal will lead a round of applause.  YOU MUST REMAIN SEATED until you are instructed to stand.
  9. You will stand and face the audience then Mr. Moran will introduce you for the first time as the Alumni of the Class of 2023.
  10. The band will then play the recessional music.  Please remain at your seat until the guests on the stage and next to the stage have departed.  Faculty members, Ms. Neckin, Mr. Sidman, Mr. Dolan and Mr. Modica will direct the graduates to leave the field in the same way they came out at the beginning – Class Advisors leading the Class of 2023 from the bleachers back through the doors and into the New Gym, where tables will be set up by counselor name and you will pick up your diploma.
