Dear Sycamore Avenue Elementary Families, I hope this letter finds all of you in good spirits and eagerly anticipating the exciting academic year ahead. My name is Tom Sheehan, and it is with great enthusiasm and honor that I introduce myself as the new Principal of Sycamore Avenue Elementary School. As some of you may already know, I have been fortunate to be a part of the educational journey at various levels. I have taught Kindergarten, Second, and Fourth grade at Floral Park-Bellerose, and I have also served as the Assistant Principal at Cherokee Street Elementary. As I step into this new role, I am filled with an unwavering excitement about cultivating a positive and thriving learning environment at Sycamore. First and foremost, I want to emphasize my steadfast commitment to creating the happiest and most enriching school experience for our students. I firmly believe that a joyful school atmosphere is the foundation of a successful educational journey. I envision Sycamore Avenue Elementary as a place where our students wake up each day, eager to come to school, thrilled to embark on new learning adventures, forge new friendships, and create cherished memories that will endure throughout their lives. One of the reasons that drew me to Sycamore Avenue Elementary is its exceptional team of teachers and staff. The staff at Sycamore exhibits a profound dedication, passion, and expertise in molding young minds and nurturing a love for learning. I firmly advocate for the power of open communication. Please bear in mind that bus pick-up and drop-off times may be delayed during the initial week, as we work to establish a routine. For any transportation issues, kindly direct your inquiries to the Transportation Department at 244-2201. Please ensure your child is dressed in comfortable attire, as the weather may be warm during the first few weeks of school. Additionally, I encourage you to thoroughly review the Arrival & Dismissal procedures as well as the Health and Safety Guidelines. Once again, I extend a warm welcome.
