Flyer - OBJazz Opens For the Long Island Ducks

 

The Oakdale-Bohemia Jazz Band is known around the community as OBJAZZ. OBJAZZ is made up of the talented 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at OBMS. These students are not just from Band but Orchestra and Chorus as well. Every instrument that is taught in school is welcome along with electric guitar, electric bass, and piano.
Once the school year begins, any interested musician auditions for a spot in this select ensemble. Through a rigorous tryout process the band is selected. Part of this process is not musical but character driven. If a student has the dedication and motivation to help the team, WE WANT YOU!The music OBJAZZ performs ranges from blues, swing, jazz standards, funk, and rock. The choice of music may come from the top, but the team is open to any and all suggestions. The performances also vary. We perform an annual holiday performance at Ockers to play for the residence. Last year we performed at the Westfield Mall in Bayshore in front of Lord and Taylors. And in January we begin our school concert series at Connetquot High School, Sayville Middle School, and again at Connetquot High School in the Spring.
Our rehearsals are typically Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30PM but there are some changes as the schedule above denotes.
While our group is select and our repertoire diverse, we are all in it together, a team.
