Connetquot High School’s turf football field bustled with marching student-musicians and members of the school’s kickline and color guard during the annual Marching Band Camp held from Aug. 2-6. Under the direction of Greg Johnson and Stacy Stollberger, the goal of the camp was to prepare for the marching band show for the fall season.

The weeklong program assisted participants with learning and memorizing the music, as well as marching basics and moves on the field. This year’s theme is Music of Lady Gaga and will include renditions of the singer’s popular tunes “Bad Romance,” “Poker Face” and “Applause.”

During the last day of camp, groups of musicians performed skits for marching band peers. There was also a test of marching directional skills during the annual March Off. The percussion group won best skit, while sophomore Riley Hens was the winner of the March Off.

To conclude the program, the marching band performed its newly-learned show for parents who lined the field to receive a preview and to watch culminating activities.

Mr. Johnson congratulated the marching band on a well-done job. “It is truly wonderful to be together again,” he told the parents and students. “We now have the basics for a wonderful show this fall.”
