Connetquot Gymnastics Flips Into Third Place

Congratulations to the Connetquot High School gymnastics team for placing third overall in the state championship meet held at Cold Spring Harbor High School. The state championship has about 100-120 athletes making up the best of the more than 1,200 gymnasts in the state. The team was comprised of 13 Section XI athletes, three of whom were from Connetquot: Alexandra Melchiona, floor and vault; Sarah Moussa, bars, who hit a season-high score of 9.325, and Arianna Platti, vault and beam, who placed sixth in the state on beam, receiving a medal.

This meet was a tremendous accomplishment for Connetquot, especially because it had the most athletes on the team. The gymnasts work tirelessly throughout the year on their craft and their hard work paid off.


Connetquot Track and Field Excels at the Long Island Elite Indoor Meet

Connetquot High School’s elite track and field student-athletes competed in the 2020 Long Island Elite Indoor Meet at St. Anthony’s High School in Huntington on Feb 29. This annual Long Island championship competition at St. Anthony’s invites the finest male and female high school track and field student-athletes from across Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Erin McLoughlin placed third in the long jump (17’6 ¼”), Emily Pfeuffer placed third in the pole vault (9’9”) and Nia Callaway placed fifth in the high jump (5’0”). On the boys’ side, Jeremy Bertolet placed third in the triple jump (43’6.25”) and Mike Domozych placed sixth in the pole vault (13’3”).

The next step for Connetquot’s elite track and field student-athletes will be the New York State championships, which will be held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island on March 7. The following T-birds will be competing for New York State titles: Erin McLoughlin (long jump); Micah Cooper, Mike Domozych and Emily Pfeuffer (pole vault) and Jeremy Bertolet (triple jump). Bertolet also qualified for the track and field national competition later in the season.
