School Social Worker

The School Social Worker provides various services to students and their families in the Connetquot community. We provide crisis intervention, short term individual and group counseling, parent consultation, information and referral to community based service agencies as well as a variety of prevention programs tailored to meet the special needs of each building. The YFS Coordinator provides state mandated health lessons for all students in grades K-5 through classroom presentations.

Elementary school counselors set the tone for developing the skill, knowledge and attitudes necessary for children to become healthy, productive adults. Counselors work as a team with school, parents and community to create a caring atmosphere whereby children’s needs are met through prevention, early identification and intervention.

Edith L. Slocum's School Social Worker is Ms. Kimberly Desz. She is a certified social worker. She may be reached during school hours 8:35-3:35 p.m. If you have any questions or concerns regarding any of the programs your child will participate in, you may contact her at (631) 467-6040 ext. 8021 or e-mail her at kimberlydesz@ccsdli.org.
