Christopher Callahan, a 13-year-old eighth grader at Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School, was selected as an honorary team captain for the Connetquot Youth Football Organization’s playoff game on Nov. 3 based on his commitment to the team and radiant positive spirit. 

Christopher’s classmates, along with his brother Dominic, are part of the CYFO football program. Christopher came onto the field with the official T-Bird captains, shook hands with William Floyd’s team captains and even took part in the pregame coin toss. Additionally, he was handed the ball for the first play of the game and took it into the end zone to score a touchdown.  

The T-Birds went on to win their first game of the playoff series by a final score of 22-0, continuing their undefeated season. The team, along with CYFO President Sal Deluca, thanked Christopher for his support throughout the game. 

Christopher was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy as a child, and a documentary about his life, “Our Boy Christopher,” was produced by Jordan Pollak in 2015.
