Suffolk Zone Students

The district is thrilled to announce that Connetquot High School students Samantha Lankowicz and Edward Sollazzo have been named 2019-2020 Suffolk Zone Physical Education Award winners by the New York State Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. 

These annual awards are presented to one male and one female student from each school district based on their effort, leadership, athleticism and outstanding character. Connetquot High School physical education teachers nominated these deserving students, while Director of Health, Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation Peter Melore made the final selection. 

Samantha currently ranks 28th in this year’s graduating class. She is tennis team captain, Thunder Tennis Camp coach, and is a member of the Jazz and Wind ensembles, Marching Band, Interact Club, Camp Invention, Girl Scouts and serves as the Leadership Intern. She is considering furthering her education at either Stony Brook University, the University of Maryland, Penn State or Indiana University, where she will study astronomy and atmospheric science.

Edward currently stands at 37th in this year’s graduating class, and participates in boys volleyball and tennis. Additionally, he contributes his time toward the Boy Scouts of America, Math League, Anti-Bias Club, Math Honor Society and Symphony Orchestra. He is an Eagle Scout, volleyball team captain, and is NY State Senate Youth Leadership Award recipient. Edward is considering attending either SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Binghamton or Lafayette College, where he will major in biomedical engineering.
