Remembering Robert Grable Prior to the football game on the evening of Sept. 27, a somber celebration was held to retire the football jersey number of recently deceased Board of Education trustee Robert Grable. Mr. Grable was an outstanding student-athlete while attending Connetquot schools and had served as the principal of Mt. Sinai High School. Field Hockey Team Claims Victory Connetquot High School field hockey coach Jen Piscitelli and her T-Birds picked up their first conference win of the year by defeating Copiague High School, at home, by an impressive final score of 5-0. The team, which includes three seniors as well as freshmen, took an early 1-0 lead into the halftime break and added four more goals in the second period. Brooke Parillo and Emma Jasinski scored two goals apiece, while Isabella Ragano scored the fifth goal. Both Parillo and Kerry Spencer were credited with assists, while goalie Hanna Pitka earned the shutout for the team. Coach Piscitelli and assistant coach Julianna DiSilvestre were pleased with the team’s overall effort against Copiague and are looking to build upon this first conference win. Girls Gymnastics Team Remains Undefeated The Connetquot High School girls gymnastics team maintained its undefeated record with an impressive 166.976-49.475 win over visiting Hampton Bays High School on Sept. 20. The Lady T-Birds now stand at 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play for the season. Alex Melchiona and Arianna Platti tied for first on the vault with a score of 8.95, while Sarah Moussa won the bars (8.9) and Noel Cutinella finished second on the balance beam (9.0). Coach Renee Guerrieri is pleased with the program’s early season success and hopes to return to championship form by the end of the season. “We finished in fourth place two years ago and second in 2018,” she said. “We’re working to challenge ourselves for the Section XI title this year.” Boys Volleyball Team Secures Fifth Consecutive Win In front of the largest and loudest home crowd of the year, the Connetquot High School boys volleyball team defeated Northport High School in three straight sets 3-0. With their 25-21, 26-24 and 25-21 scores, the T-Birds improved to an impressive conference record of 6-1. This Northport win servers as the T-Birds’ fifth consecutive win of the 2019 season. Stan Maring had 15 kills, Trey Cole added 11 and Mike Domozych added 13 of his own. Additionally, Dom Ruggiero had 39 assists for Connetquot.
