In honor of being named the winners of this year’s Connetquot Public Library Summer Reading Program, John Pearl Elementary School students were recently treated to an engaging and exciting assembly program focused on literacy.

During the event, which was presented by “The Storycrafters” Jeri Burns and Barry Marshall, students were captivated by imaginative tales involving a colorful cast of characters and musical interludes played on a harp. As part of their final act, The Storycrafters recited an original rap song about “Jack and the Beanstalk,” in which the students were asked to guess the story based on context clues given in the lyrics.

The summer reading program was open to all district elementary school students and John Pearl Elementary School won by having its students read the highest percentage of books.
