Boys Volleyball Team Wins Home Opener

Connetquot High School boys volleyball coach Jessica Perry was very impressed with her team’s opening effort against the visitors from Eastport-South Manor High School on Sept. 5. The T-Birds, led by seniors Trey Cole and Stan Maring, won their home opener by a final score of 3-1. While ESM won the first set 29-27, the home team was able to rally together to win the next three straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-22.

Trey Cole contributed 17 kills, Stan Maring had 12 and sophomore Dominick Ruggiero was credited with 47 assists. Additionally, recently appointed Director of Health, Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation Pete Melore was on hand to support the T-Birds.

Connetquot is led by an experienced group of veterans which includes seven seniors and five juniors among the 16 players on the 2019 roster. Coaches Perry and assistant coach Steve Woessner were satisfied with the opener and are expecting great things from this hardworking group of student-athletes.

The T-Birds finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 9-5, earning a Suffolk County playoff bid as the program’s most successful season in a decade.
