Connetquot High School students enrolled in Vincent Osmer’s Sculpting and Ceramics classes recently took a field trip to Long Island University, CW Post Campus to engage in the traditional Japanese style of ceramics known as “Raku.” During their visit, the 18 students were busy participating in the Raku process, which included glazing their pieces, loading the kilns, prepping the fire pit and cleaning their work afterward. Additionally, the students were granted the opportunity to speak with artist and professor Frank Olt who talked about ceramics and working in a studio environment at the collegiate-level.
