On Sept. 1, purple was the dominant color for the Connetquot Central School District community in support of Islip Town’s Islip Goes Purple initiative, which encouraged residents to “go purple” by wearing a purple shirt to show support of the initiative.

Islip Goes Purple is a monthlong initiative designed to unite the Town of Islip in raising awareness of mental health, substance use disorders and celebrating those in recovery. According to www.islipgoespurple.com, residents are encouraged to talk to their children about addiction and substance use disorder, learn how to properly dispose of unused medication and how to show compassion and support for those struggling with addiction.
