Connetquot High School’s turf football field bustled with marching student-musicians and members of the school’s kickline and color guard during the annual Marching Band Camp held from Aug. 1-5. Under the direction of Greg Johnson and Stacy Stollberger, the goal of the camp was to prepare for the Newsday Marching Band Show, Columbus Day Parade in Manhattan and football game half-time shows.

The weeklong program assisted participants with learning and memorizing the music, as well as marching basics and moves on the field. This year will include a medley of popular Bruno Mars music. To conclude the program, the marching band performed its newly-learned show for parents, who lined the field to receive a preview and to watch culminating activities.

Mr. Johnson congratulated the marching band on their efforts, especially during the extreme summer heat. “This is a really great group of student-musicians,” Mr. Johnson said. “The fact that they gave up a week of their summer to practice is awesome.”
