Third grade students at Sycamore Avenue learned how to become responsible digital citizens. During National Digital Citizenship Week on Oct. 18-22, library media specialist Christina Ladick taught students in grades K-5 that online activity can have a ripple effect on them individually, the community and the world.

Third graders used iPads as collaboration boards to discuss their responsibilities as digital citizens, a person who uses technology responsibly to learn, create and participate. Kindergarten students learned how to balance screen time with other activities, while first graders learned to pause and think before using a computer or the internet. Topics for other grade levels included positive media choices and finding media balance.

Sponsored by Common Sense Education, Digital Citizenship Week helps students reflect on how digital media affects their lives and social and emotional well-being and how to remain responsible and safe digital citizens.
