As Idle Hour students settled into their academic schedules, they reaped the benefits of being able to check out books from their newly refurbished library. The Idle Hour library is one of four elementary school libraries from the list of capital projects completed by the Connetquot Central School District this past summer. Cherokee Street, Edith Slocum and Edward J. Bosti elementary schools’ libraries also received complete overhauls.

During an introduction to the new media space, librarian Julia DeMaio gave students a tour and reminded them of the rules and the care of books. She explained where the fiction and nonfiction books were located, where students can access the reading nook and her plans for wall space in the coming months. After the tour, students were allowed to check out a book and to read quietly in a library that will serve the needs of students for years to come.
