Weekly Roundup – Sept. 17

Field Hockey:
Field hockey coach Jen Piscitelli was pleased with the team’s efforts in its Sept. 13 win over visiting Copiague. The team’s aggressive defense and teamwork on offense led the T-Birds to an impressive 6-0 win. Connetquot is off to an exciting start, boasting a 3-1 overall record.

Briana Censi and Heather Dent scored twice for the T-Birds while Kenzi Sorensen and Margaret Sullivan chipped in with one goal apiece. Farah Amarando, Dent and Sullivan were each credited with an assist.

Gymnastics:
Connetquot High School gymnastics coaches Renee Guerrieri and Samantha Tutone celebrated the team’s Sept. 14 exciting win over Commack by announcing that four teammates had been named All-Long Island by Newsday. Newsday announced that they had selected the 25 most outstanding high school gymnasts on Long Island for 2021, who included Noel Cutinella, Alexandra Melchiona, Avery Melchiona and Ariana Platti. It should be mentioned that while two of the girls are seniors and one is a junior, Avery Melchiona is an eighth grader.

Connetquot is now 2-0 overall this season, after hosting Commack. The final score was Connetquot 163.25 – 156.1. Arianna Platti excelled on the beam with a score of 9.4. Alexandra Melchiona won the bars (9.2) and floor exercises (9.3).

Girls Tennis:
The girls varsity tennis team remains undefeated after crushing Brentwood 7-0 on Sept. 11 at home. T-Bird coach Amy Cohen was impressed by her team’s confidence as they hosted crosstown rival Brentwood HS. One highlight for Connetquot was Aleksa Brazyte who won first singles (6-3, 4-6, 7-6, 8-6). Connetquot improves to 2-0 in Suffolk League I.

Boys Soccer:
High school boys soccer coach John Zambriski’s T-Birds spent most of the match on offense against Ward Melville on Sept. 10 but didn’t score. The Connetquot boys also kept the visitors from scoring, led by goalkeeper Tyler Moore who was credited with 11 impressive saves. Connetquot’s league II record now stands at 2-0-1.

Junior Varsity Field Hockey and Tennis:
The junior varsity field hockey team defeated Copiague by a score of 8-0 this week. The junior varsity tennis team defeated Lindenhurst by a score of 7-0. Coach Leslie Sewell is proud of the team’s 2-0 start this season.
