Girls Varsity Soccer:

Coach Ryan Cavanagh is optimistic that this year’s team of newcomers will mature in their game and make the district proud. On Sept. 5, the T-Birds hosted East Islip. Even though the team did not realize a victory, the student-athletes secured two goals.

“We played our first two games this weekend and used our bench extensively in this non-league game,” said Coach Cavanagh. “I try to give all the players minutes early in the season,” which gives the younger players experience, and gets the team ready for their challenging season.”

Football:

The Connetquot High School football team and coach Michael Konsevich welcomed Division 1 Lindenhurst High School for the first 2021 football challenge of the season, held on the high school practice field on Sept. 3. Coach Konsevich reported that the Lindenhurst team was surprised by the T-Birds’ energy and aggressiveness early in the scrimmage.

Connetquot graduated 20 seniors from last year’s team and is currently working with returning veterans and sophomores from last year’s junior varsity team. The team will be led by Matt Gomez and Nick LaMantia, recently named to Newsday’s top 100 Long Island football student-athletes. The T-Bird’s first home game against North Babylon will be held on Sept. 17.
