Good afternoon Connetquot Families,

After much discussion and deliberation, earlier today the governing bodies for athletics in Suffolk and Nassau Counties (Section XI and Section VIII) announced that that the spring sports season for 2020 has been cancelled at all levels. We understand that this news will be disappointing to many in our community, especially those in our senior class, but please know that this decision was made in the best interest of the health and safety of our student-athletes and staff.

Although the season will not take place, our district is still working to plan for various ways to celebrate our athletes. Our high school athletic awards ceremony as well as a special college commitment recognition program will be hosted virtually in the near future. Once the date and logistics are finalized, we will be sure to communicate that with our athletes and their families.

Additionally, Connetquot High School will be joining the national “be the light initiative” to pay tribute to our senior athletes. On Thursday, April 23 the lights in the stadium at CHS will be turned on at 8:20 p.m. for 20 minutes and “2020” will be posted on our scoreboard to honor the Class of 2020. In compliance with current social distancing guidelines, in-person attendance to this event will not be permitted. However, the district will be documenting it with pictures/video and will share those through our social media platforms and website. This is a project being done at high schools around the country and we are proud to join the cause.

I hope you and your families are well and we look forward to seeing you all, if only virtually, sometime soon!
Best,

Peter Melore, Director of Health, Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation
