As part of Connetquot Central School District’s commitment to providing students with enriched learning opportunities, third grade students across all elementary schools have the chance to learn a second language as part of the district’s Foreign Language in the Elementary School program.
The optional program is being piloted this year as a “Lunch and Learn” initiative, which is offered to enrolled students during their lunch periods every other day. Connetquot High School Spanish teachers William Bedell and Elise Ruyle are spearheading the instruction across the schools, with each teaching at several schools individually.
Students have learned the alphabet and how to make basic introductions, created “All About Me” projects in Spanish, and learned about seasonable traditions associated with the time of year.
