Football Team Claims Victory

The Connetquot High School football team took a 20-3 halftime lead against Smithtown West High School on the evening of Sept. 27, and turned the score into a convincing 28-22 win against the visitors by the end of the game.
Connetquot’s win was due to the efforts of Tyler Cordes, who rushed for 172 yards and one touchdown, and quarterback Drew Guttieri, who rushed for 70 yards and completed 13 of 23 passes for another 170 yards and two touchdowns. One of Drew’s touchdown completions included an impressive 51-yard pass to James Mastro in the fourth quarter. Additionally, Cole Bunicci had 10 tackles and scored a touchdown early in the game, while Jack McCarthy and James Mastro each had an interception against Smithtown West.
Prior to the game, a somber celebration was held to retire the football jersey number of recently deceased Board of Education trustee Robert Grable. Mr. Grable was an outstanding student-athlete while attending Connetquot schools and had served as the principal of Mt. Sinai High School.

With this win under their belt, the T-Birds improved their season record to 2-1.
